There is now a threat for some strong to severe storms across parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle this afternoon and evening. Accordingly, the Storm Prediction Center has hatched parts of the Central Gulf Coast Region in a slight risk for severe storms.

Setup: Multiple clusters of strong to severe storms are expected to develop across Northern Mississippi and Alabama this afternoon along a frontal boundary. They will then move South across Mississippi, Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, and the Florida Panhandle late this afternoon into the evening and could potentially develop into a line segment.

Threats: The primary threat posed by storms this afternoon and evening will be damaging wind gusts in excess of 60mph. However, some hail can’t be ruled out in some of the stronger storms. Could to ground lighting – perhaps prolific in some storms – will also be likely.

Timing: Multiple linear clusters of strong to severe storms are expected to develop across Northern Mississippi and Alabama this afternoon by around 1:00pm or 2:00pm CT.

The clusters will then move Southward across Central Mississippi and Alabama between 2:00pm and 4:00pm CT. They could potentially merge into a line segment as they move across Central Mississippi and Alabama.

Then, between 4:00pm and 8:00pm CT the line or clusters will move across Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, Southern Alabama, and the Western Florida Panhandle.

The line should move out over the Gulf sometime after 8:00pm CT.
