The tropics in the Atlantic are very active this evening, with several developed and undeveloped systems that are being monitored.
Ex-invest 92-L
An area of low pressure – ex-invest 92-L – is located over the extreme Northwestern Gulf of Mexico this evening. It has become slightly better organized today, and also brought widespread thunderstorm activity to the Central and Western Gulf Coast earlier this afternoon.
However, additional development of ex-invest 92-L is unlikely because it will be moving inland over Southern Texas tomorrow. Thunderstorm activity similar to today’s can be expected across the Western and Central Gulf Coast again tomorrow, though.
In their 8:00PM EDT tropical weather outlook the National Hurricane Center gave ex-invest 92-L a 0% chance of developing over the next 2 days and 5 days.
Tropical Storm Karl
Tropical Storm Karl formed over the far Eastern Atlantic last night.
As of the 5:00PM EDT advisory tropical storm Karl was located over the far Eastern Atlantic at 18.8 degrees north and 36.6 degrees west, had maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per-hour, a minimum central pressure of 1005 millibars, and was moving west at 14 miles per-hour.
Forecast for Tropical Storm Karl
At this time Tropical Storm Karl is expected to strengthen into a hurricane just northeast of the Caribbean on Tuesday, that is if it does not dissipate this weekend due to dry air and unfavorable upper-level winds.
Although, it appears likely that a trough will dig in over the western Atlantic next week, preventing it from tracking towards the Bahamas or United States.
Tropical Storm Julia
Tropical Storm Julia is still alive off of the Southeast U.S. coast this evening.
As of the 5:00PM EDT advisory Tropical Storm Julia was located over the Southwest Atlantic at 30.8 degrees north and 75.7 degrees west, had maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per-hour, a minimum central pressure of 1008 millibars, and was moving south at 3 miles per-hour.
Forecast for Tropical Storm Karl
Tropical Storm Julia is expected to weaken to a tropical depression tonight. However, Julia will continue to meander off of the Southeast U.S. coastline through early next week, eventually dissipating.
New tropical wave
There is another tropical wave emerging off of the coast of Africa tonight that has some potential to develop over the next several days.
However, even if it does manage to develop, it should dissipate over the tropical Atlantic early next week as environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for development.
As of their 8:00PM EDT tropical weather outlook the National Hurricane Center gave the wave a 20% chance of developing over the next 2 days and a 50% chance of developing over the next 5 days.
Summary
Overall there are no tropical entities that are likely to develop an impact the Gulf Coast at this time.
We will have another update out on the tropics on Sunday.
