It’s still a bit early, and details are murky, but the potential for strong to severe storms appears set to return to the Gulf Coast Region late this week into this weekend.
Setup: A storm system will move into the Southern Plains on Thursday, sweep across the Mississippi River Valley late Thursday into Friday, and exit the region to the Northeast late Friday. Then, Saturday through Sunday a second, potentially stronger storm system will sweep across the region.
The parameters will be in place to support the potential for at least some severe weather across parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle Thursday into Friday.
The same goes for the second storm system this weekend; however, a strong low level jet stream might support a greater severe weather potential.
Timing and threats: It is too early for specifics on timing and threats at this point.
