A storm system is going to impact parts of Texas and Louisiana through Tuesday of this week.
It will bring severe storms to parts of Texas this afternoon and tonight, and heavy, soaking rainfall to Eastern Texas and portions of Louisiana through Tuesday.
Setup
Two features are going to play a role in this event: an upper-level trough, which will sweep across the Plains today through late Wednesday and early Thursday; and a surface low, or possibly a weak trough of low pressure, which will develop over Southern Texas on Monday, and push east across the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico through Tuesday and early Wednesday.
Both features combined will pull deep gulf moisture north, which will allow heavy rain and storms to develop across parts of Texas and Louisiana through Tuesday.
Severe Threat
There is a threat for strong to severe storms across Central and Eastern Texas this afternoon and into the overnight hours tonight.
The greatest threat for severe storms will be across parts of Central Texas, where there is a “slight” risk for severe storms. Strong to severe storms will still be possible across Central and Eastern Texas, however, where there is a “marginal” risk for severe storms.
The main threats posed by any severe storms tomorrow will be hail and damaging winds; and an isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out either.
Heavy Rainfall
Widespread heavy rainfall will occur across Eastern Texas and parts of Louisiana through Tuesday..
The heaviest rainfall is expected to fall across Southeastern Texas and Southwest Louisiana, where rainfall accumulations between 2 – 4″ are expected, with locally higher amounts likely.
Accumulations of 1 – 2″ are expected elsewhere across Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana.
