There is a threat for severe weather tonight. Meanwhile, tomorrow is shaping up to be a dangerous day, with another significant threat for severe weather event set to unfold.
Tonight
The threat for severe weather tonight will be across Southeast Mississippi, South/Central Alabama, and the Western Florida Panhandle.
Threat levels: The greatest threat for severe weather tonight will be in the category 2 (“slight”) risk area. However, some strong to severe storms will also be possible in the category 1 (“marginal”) risk area.
Timing: Scattered, discrete storms will develop along a warm front across Southern Portions of the threat area after midnight, and shift north across the remainder of the threat area into early tomorrow morning.
Threats: Large, damaging hail will be the main threat. However, tornadoes will become a concern towards the early morning hours.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow’s significant severe weather threat will be centered across the entire state of Alabama and most of the Florida Panhandle.
Threat levels: The significant severe threat tomorrow will be in the category 4 (” moderate”) and category 3 (“enhanced”) risk areas. Some strong to severe storms will be likely in the category 2 (“slight”) and category 1 (“marginal”) risk areas too, however.
Timing: Multiple waves of storms are expected across most of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle throughout much of the day tomorrow.
The first wave will occur late/early tomorrow morning; the second wave will be mid to late morning into early tomorrow afternoon; the final wave will be early tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening.
Threats: All modes of severe weather (tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail) are likely tomorrow; and the threat for strong, long lived, violent tornadoes (EF-2 or higher) will be exceptionally high.
