Cold, arctic air is still expected to funnel into the Central and Eastern US, including the Gulf Coast, this week as a result of a pattern change.
Two blasts of cold air are expected.
Midweek
The first of the two will move in tomorrow, behind a cold front associated with a large upper level trough (a dip in the jet stream), which will quickly sweep east.
Temperatures will drop below normal through Thursday. The coldest temperatures will occur overnight tomorrow night and Wednesday morning; lower 50s to lower to upper 40s will be likely along most of the Northern Gulf Coast.
This Weekend
The second will push in this weekend, as another upper level trough digs into the Central and Eastern US, bringing another quick moving cold front east on Saturday.
It will be much colder than the first, dropping temperatures well below seasonal levels. It is too early to pin point how low temperatures will drop.
However, it does appear that lower 40s to upper 30s will be possible across much of the Northern Gulf Coast Saturday night/Sunday morning, and potentially again Sunday night/Monday morning.
