The front has worked through much of the region, and is now located near/on the Mississippi/Alabama border; it will push across the remainder of the region over the next few hours.
Today and tonight: Skies will clear for the Texas Gulf Coast. Cloudy to partly cloudy conditions will persist elsewhere. It will also be very windy across much of the region, with wind advisories in effect. Gusts up to and in excess of 30mph are possible.
An arctic airmass has started to settle in over the Texas Gulf Coast, Louisiana, and most of Mississippi, and will begin to settle in Central and South Alabama and the Western Florida Panhandle later this morning after the frontal passage. This means temperatures will be on the cool side today.
Highs along the Texas Gulf Coast will range from the mid to upper 50s to upper 40s, and the upper 30s to lower 40s across Louisiana and Central Mississippi.
Upper 50s to lower 60s are expected across South and Central Alabama and the Florida Panhandle; However, this ahead of the frontal passage. Temperatures will actually fall throughout the day.
Temperatures will take a nosedive tonight. Lows will be in the 30s across the Texas Gulf Coast, upper 20s to lower 30s along the North-Central Gulf Coast, and mid to upper 20s to lower 30s across Louisiana, South and Central Mississippi and Alabama, and the Western Florida Panhandle.
A freeze warning is in effect for Southeast Louisiana, including New Orleans.
This weekend: Skies will be clear and sunny, but cold temperatures are in store. Highs will be in the 50s along the Texas Gulf Coast tomorrow, and in the 40s for the remainder of the region.
Tomorrow night, overnight lows in the 30s are expected for the Texas Gulf Coast again, and upper 20s along the North-Central Gulf Coast. Lower to mid 20s are likely across Louisiana and South and Central Mississippi and Alabama.
A hard freeze will be possible tomorrow night, and is something we will continue to monitor.
Temperatures similar to those experienced tomorrow can be expected Sunday.
Early/Mid-week: Another front will push through Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. It will bring rain back into the picture, and another surge of arctic air behind it. Model guidance has also been hinting at the potential for some wintry precipitation across portions of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and even the Western Florida Panhandle during the Tuesday/Wednesday time frame. This is something we will keep an eye on, but as of now is not expected to come to fruition.
