Heavy Rain, Storms Tomorrow, Wednesday

Another round of heavy rain and storms — some of which could become strong to marginally severe —  is on tap tomorrow and Wednesday ahead of a slow moving cold front.

Tomorrow: Skies will be mostly cloudy along the Texas Gulf Coast and much of Louisiana and partly cloudy with increasing cloud coverage elsewhere. Temperatures will be warm, with afternoon highs ranging from the upper to mid 60s to lower to mid 70s.

Rain/storms: Scattered showers and storms return along the Texas Gulf Coast and across much of Louisiana and Central and South Mississippi tomorrow.

Forecast rainfall through Friday.

Late tomorrow, another round of widespread, heavy rain and thunderstorms will develop ahead of the front, and push across Southwest, Central, and North Louisiana and Central Mississippi through tomorrow night; it will then push into and across the remainder of South Louisiana, South Mississippi, Central and South Alabama, and the Western Florida Panhandle overnight tomorrow/early Wednesday through the first half of the day.

Rainfall accumulations will be between 0.25 – 3″.

A few strong to severe storms possible: There is potential for some strong to marginally severe storms across North Louisiana tomorrow into tomorrow night, and possibly Central Mississippi and points east Wednesday.

The Storm Prediction Center has hatched a level 1 (“marginal”) risk of severe weather for parts of North Louisiana tomorrow.

The main threats associated with any strong to severe storms will be hail and damaging wind gusts. Though, an isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out.

Cooler, drier Thursday: The front will complete its passage late Wednesday/early Thursday. An area of high pressure will slide in behind it, bringing cooler temperatures and drier air.

Thursday, clouds will return to the Texas Gulf Coast and South Louisiana with sunny skies elsewhere. Highs in the mid 50s to lower 60s and lows in the mid 30s to upper 40s Thursday night/Friday morning.

Friday: Temperatures rebound ahead of the next system that will move through over the weekend, with afternoon highs climbing into the 60s to lower 70s and overnight lows in the 50s and 60s. Clouds will also overspread the remainder of Louisiana, Central and South Mississippi and Alabama, and the Western Florida Panhandle.
