Excessive rainfall is going to impact parts of Texas and Louisiana trough this week, resulting in a flood threat. Additionally, a severe weather threat is also looking probable this weekend.
Heavy Rain
Setup: A trough over the Western U.S., an unusually strong ridge in place over the Eastern U.S., and a slow moving front between the trough and ridge are going to work to draw moisture from the Gulf of Mexico north.
The increased moisture will result in several rounds of heavy rainfall across much of Central and Eastern Texas, North and Central Louisiana, and Northern and Central Mississippi midweek. Late week into this weekend, a storm system will bring another round of heavy rain and storms.
Some rain, possibly heavy at times, and storms will also be likely across South Texas (but not far South Texas) and Southwest Louisiana.
Accumulations and placement: The axis of heaviest rain will be positioned from East-Central Texas into the Ark-La-Tex region. Rainfall totals of 4 – 8″ are likely, with some locally higher accumulations likely.1 – 3″ of rain can be expected across South Texas, Southwest and Central Louisiana, and Central Mississippi.
Flood threat: The increased rainfall is good news in regard to areas experiencing drought. However, there is a flood threat.
Severe Weather Threat This Weekend?
The storm system that late this week into the weekend could bring a threat for severe weather to the portions of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama this weekend.
It is too early for specifics, though. And there is still ample time for change.
