Potential for Strong to Severe Storms Across South LA This Afternoon and Evening

Figure 1. Severe weather outlook for today.

Scattered to numerous “pop up” thunderstorms are going to develop across South Louisiana along a weak, stationary cold front this afternoon. Some could become strong to severe.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a “slight” risk area as well as a “marginal” risk area — both mainly along and south of I-10 (see figure 1).

Large hail and damaging, straight-line winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning will be possible. There is a very low-end tornado threat, but it is not zero.
