Severe Storms Possible for North, Central MS, Parts of AL This Evening

Severe weather outlook for today. Image: NOAA SPC

A band of thunderstorms is expected to develop in association with a front this afternoon back toward Arkansas and North Louisiana. During the evening hours, it will track east, across north and central Alabama and Mississippi.

We will likely have some isolated/discrete cells form too.

With CAPE values expected to range form ~ 500 – 1000 j/Kg, and deep layer shear of 40 – 50 kts, there will be potential for a few severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has hatched a level 2 (slight) risk area. The SPC has also defined a level 1 (marginal) threat zone.

Damaging winds will be the primary threat – particularly with the main line/band. However, hail and an isolated tornado or two will also be possible.
