Category 5 hurricane Dorian is currently plowing across the northern Bahamas.

11 AM EDT advisory info

As of the 11 AM EDT advisory, sustained winds were 180 mph, pressure was 913 millibars and movement was west at 7 mph.

Track

Westward movement will continue today. However, by tonight/early tomorrow, Dorian should slow substantially and eventually stall.

There should be a northward turn Tuesday.

Dorian is forecast to remain just barely offshore, skirting the Southeast U.S. coast (see figure 2). This is not a guarantee, though.

Only a slight deviation to the west of the current forecast track could result in landfall.

Intensity

Dorian will likely continue to strengthen today. Although, slight fluctuations in intensity are likely through Tuesday.

By Wednesday, shear is predicted to increase, and should induce a gradual weakening trend.

Impacts

Because of the uncertainty with regard to how close to the coast Dorian will track, what the impact will be to Florida’s east coast.

As a precaution, a hurricane watch and storm sure watch have been posted.
