BREAKING: Dorian Makes Landfall Over Cape Hatteras, NC

Dorian made landfall in Cape Hatteras, NC at 8:35 AM EDT according to an update statement issued by the NHC.

Sustained winds were 90 mph at the time, meaning Dorian was category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale at landfall.

Pressure was estimated to be at 956 mb at the time of landfall.

The NHC statement said that a wind gust of 89 mph was reported in Ocracoke, NC, with a sustained wind of 73 mph.

Dorian will begin to move away from the U.S. later today.
