Invest 95L Upgraded to Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine; Forecast to Become Tropical Storm Humberto

Invest 95L has been upgraded to Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine (PTC 9).

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is forecasting PTC 9 to become a tropical depression tomorrow, and Tropical Storm Humberto by tomorrow night/Saturday.

PTC 9 is forecast to make landfall along Florida’s east coast over the weekend.

Based on the NHC forecast cone (see figure 1), as well as model guidance, the threat to the north-central and northeast Gulf Coast has further diminished.

However, uncertainty is rather high with regard to both track and intensity, as noted in the 5 PM EDT forecast discussion for PTC 9 from the NHC.
