Arctic Blast Expected Early Next Week

A strong arctic front is going to bring a surge of continental polar air early next week.

The front will likely pass through Texas Monday, Louisiana, Mississippi and north Alabama overnight Monday/early Tuesday, and the remainder of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle during the first half of the day Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms will occur along/ahead of the front. However, at this time, a changeover to frozen/wintry precipitation is very, very unlikely.

Temperatures will plummet in the wake of the front, and will likely run 20 to 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) below normal through Wednesday (see figure 1).

The coldest temperatures will be experienced Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, when the freezing line will likely make it as far south as the I-10 corridor (see figure 2).
