A cold front is going to sweep across across the Gulf Coast this weekend.
Widespread rain and some storms can be expected prior to frontal passage, and a severe weather threat is likely to evolve for east Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and west Alabama Saturday afternoon/evening (see figure 1).
While the Storm Prediction Center has only delineated a slight (level 2 out of 5) risk area, there will be potential for damaging winds and a few tornadoes.
Because of decreasing instability, the severe weather threat should diminish overnight/early Sunday.
However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the marginal (level 1 out of 5) risk area were to be expanded farther east.
