Enhanced Risk for Severe Weather for Parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama Tomorrow

Strong to severe storms are now looking likely for parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama tomorrow.

Since Friday’s update, the Storm Prediction Center has expanded the level 2 (slight) risk area. A level 3 (enhanced) risk area has also been outlined (see figure 1).

It is likely scattered storms will initially develop over east Texas and western Louisiana late tomorrow morning/early tomorrow afternoon, and then increase in coverage while shifting east into Mississippi tomorrow afternoon into the overnight/evening.

Decreasing instability should result in a decrease in both coverage and intensity of storms as they advance into Alabama and the Florida Panhandle overnight/Tuesday morning, but the severe weather threat will not diminish completely.

While all modes of severe weather (tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail) remain possible, damaging wind gusts are likely to be the greatest threat.
