Parts of Mississippi, Alabama Upgraded to Enhanced Risk for Severe Weather

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded parts of central and northern Mississippi and northwest Alabama to a level 3 (enhanced) risk for severe weather today (see figure 1).

The greatest risk for severe weather in the enhanced risk area will fall between 12 PM and 6 PM CST.

A few tornadoes and damaging winds will be the primary threat, but some hail can’t be ruled out with some of the stronger storms.

Later tonight/early tomorrow, a squall/band of storms will evolve along/ahead of a cold front and quickly move off to the east by tomorrow afternoon (see figure 2).

Heavy rain as well as potential for damaging winds and a tornado or two will accompany the line.
