Level 4 Risk for Severe Weather Expanded for Today; Strong Tornadoes Possible

A significant outbreak of severe weather will likely unfold from east Texas into the Southeast today into tonight and early Monday.

There is now a level 4 (out of 5) risk for severe weather for north-central Louisiana, central and southern Mississippi, and central and southern Alabama.  An expansive level 3 (out of 5) risk area is still in place as well.

In addition to the potential for damaging wind and hail, overnight data is now suggesting there will be a threat for strong tornadoes (EF-2+).

Here is a rough estimate of when each state/region can expect the main threat for severe weather:

  • East Texas: late this morning – late this afternoon/early this evening.
  • Louisiana: late this morning – tonight.
  • Mississippi: early this afternoon – tonight.
  • Alabama: early this afternoon – tonight.
  • Florida Panhandle: mid/late afternoon – tonight/early Monday.
