Invest 90L Becomes First Tropical Depression of 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Invest 90L, located just east of Florida, has gained enough organization to be classified a tropical depression (Tropical Depression One).

As of the 5 PM EDT advisory, maximum sustained winds were 35 mph with a minimum central pressure of 1008 mb. Movement was north-northeast at 13 mph.

Low wind shear should allow for continued organization, and Tropical Depression One will likely become a tropical storm tonight or tomorrow.

Based on the latest intensity guidance, a weak to moderate tropical storm is still most likely.

While Tropical Depression One is moving away from Florida, a westward shift in model guidance has increased the threat to North Carolina. As such, a tropical storm watch has been hoisted.
