NOAA Calling for Active 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued their outlook for the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.

Like Colorado State University, NOAA is predicting above-normal activity; specifically, 13 to 19 named storms, 6 to 10 hurricanes, with 3 to 6 of those being category 3 or greater.

According to NOAA, there is a 60 percent chance of above-normal activity, a 30 percent of near-normal activity, and a 10 percent chance of below-normal activity.

The absence of El Niño and above-average sea surface temperatures across the tropical Atlantic are two of the main factors pointing toward an active Atlantic hurricane season.
