Tropical Storm Bertha has Formed

Invest 91L quickly became better organized overnight and is now producing winds up to tropical storm force based on buoy and radar data. The center has also become better defined.

Based on this, the National Hurricane Center has upgraded Invest 91L to Tropical Storm Bertha – the second tropical storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.

Maximum sustained winds are estimated to be 45 mph. Little strengthening is expected, as Bertha will come ashore later this morning between Charleston, SC and Myrtle Beach, SC.

The primary hazard will be heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding. However, tropical storm force winds will also be likely for parts of coastal South Carolina.
