Tropical Depression Five Forms in Western Atlantic

A mesoscale convective vortex (MCV), which moved off of Georgia and South Carolina and into the Atlantic Thursday, has spawned the fifth tropical depression of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.

Tropical Depression Five formed this morning in the western Atlantic. The depression is small and being impacted by wind shear and some mid-level dry air.

Despite shear and dry air, some slight intensification is possible.

Tropical Depression Five is forecast to become a tropical storm tonight/tomorrow. The next name on the list is Edouard.

While Tropical Depression Five will not affect the U.S., it will pass fairly close to, if not over, Bermuda tonight and tomorrow.
