Invest 91L Likely to Develop, Impact Western Gulf Coast

Invest 91L is likely to become the next tropical cyclone of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season anytime between now and Friday. The National Hurricane Center has bumped the chance of development up to 80 percent.

A recent ASCAT pass suggests that a closed center of circulation has formed. If this is the case, it is possible Invest 91L is already a tropical depression or storm.

A hurricane hunter aircraft is currently investigating to see if a tropical cyclone has formed.

Invest 91L will make landfall somewhere along the Texas Gulf Coast Friday or Saturday per the latest track guidance.

How quickly Invest 91L is able to develop will play a large role in determining future intensity. Right now a tropical storm is the most likely outcome. The next name on the list is Hanna.

The primary impact will be heavy rain for areas of Texas and Louisiana Friday into the weekend regardless of development.
