Tropics Becoming Active Again

The tropics are perking up once again after a brief lull in activity.

A tropical wave in the western Caribbean is being watched for possible development. Additionally, a second tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles is being monitored for development in the central and western Caribbean early next week.

The wave in the western Caribbean is being given a high chance (70%) of developing into a tropical cyclone by the National Hurricane Center. Wind shear is low and there is some model support from the GFS and GFS ensembles (GEFS).

The second tropical wave is currently being given a low chance (20%) of developing by the National Hurricane Center. Similar to the wave in western Caribbean, it also has some model support.

If either of these waves develop into a tropical cyclone it is too early to know what, if any, threat they would pose to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
