Winter Returns: Snow Possible for Northern Mississippi, Alabama

Winter has returned to the Gulf Coast. Much colder and drier air will filter in behind a cold front that currently extends from southeast Louisiana into central/northern Alabama.

The cold front will continue to progress east, eventually moving through southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle late this afternoon/this evening.

Freeze warnings/hard freeze warnings are in effect for much of south Texas, south/central Louisiana, and portions of south Mississippi.

Some wintry precipitation will be possible across portions of north/central Mississippi and Alabama this afternoon into tonight. For the most part little to no impacts are expected.

However, some light snowfall accumulations (1 to 2″) will be possible. Winter weather advisories are in place. Some wintry precipitation will also be possible for portions of northern Louisiana today. Only trace accumulations are expected, and a winter weather advisory is in place.

Temperatures will plummet into the 20s and 30s tonight. High temperatures tomorrow will range in the 40s to lower/middle 50s with the exception of much of the Florida Peninsula and far south Texas.
