Cold, Stormy Pattern Likely for Eastern and Central U.S. Mid to Late Month

The next strong cold front is set to move through the Gulf Coast late this weekend/early next week. This front will likely kick off a pattern change.

The latest operational and ensemble guidance is in agreement that the pattern from about mid month through late month will favor cold/stormy weather across the central and eastern parts of the country.

While cold temperatures are not abnormal considering it is winter, the pattern, assuming it sets up as model guidance shows, will be supportive of intrusions of continental arctic (cA)/continental polar (cP) air.

Periods of below-average temperatures will be likely as is indicated by the latest 6 – 10 day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center.
